Starting Meds Jul 2, 2008 My wife has just been diagnosed HIV+ (I'm -). They are now running tests for her general state of health. The Dr. has said they don't use meds until the cd count goes below 200. Is this normal and if not what do you think is the rational? She's 34 yrs. |

 Sorry to hear about your wife's recent diagnosis. Your note doesn't say where you live, but in most parts of the world, current treatment guidelines recommend starting HIV treatments when CD4 counts are below 350 (not 200). Older (and outdated) guidelines used the 200 count threshold. At the very least, it would be useful to know your countries guidelines as a starting point for discussion.
