| Is this an ok combo? May 22, 2008 Hi, my Dr just prescribed Viread 1x day,Ziagen 1-2x day, and, Kaletra 2-2x day, is this generally considered a good combo with least side effects? I previously tried Atripla and could not get over some of the side effects. Thank you for your time! |

Response from Dr. Young
Hello and thanks for your post. It sounds like this is still considered your first-line regimen. As such, I find it somewhat unconventional. There are a couple of ways to make your regimen consistent with current treatment guidelines- both would continue the Kaletra protease inhibitor, but alter the nukes. First, you could continue the tenofovir, but in combination with FTC-- a drug called Truvada (ie, stop Ziagen). Alternatively, you could stop the Viread, continue abacavir in combination with 3TC -- another combination pill called Epzicom or Kivexa. Both options are currently considered preferred regimens in the US treatment guidelines. I hope this helps. BY | |||||||||
