chest x-ray findings
Feb 13, 2008

I had a chest x-ray done , the report reads as : "scarring seen in the right upper zone and in left perihilar region, Hila are congested. cardiac shadow is normal, domes of diaphragm, costophrenic angles are clear."

My symptoms are headache, chest pain sometimes, blood spots in sputum in the morning.

Since Oct 2007, i am on medication, augmentin 625 (the sinus was infectedat that time),2 tab a day (12 tabs. then gap then 12 tab, twice daily.) thereafter, Pentids 400 mg. Now the doctor prescribes gatifloxacin 400, 1 tab daily ..10 days

My health is worsening by the day. I seek your help in diagnosing my problem: is it T.B./or any other infection? Thanks and best regards, Hari Sh. Ranga

Response from Dr. Young

Thank you for your post.

From what you've described, you chest Xray is concerning for the possibility of either old or active infection; tuberculosis has to be on the list of possibilities.

At this point, the real issue is establishing a diagnosis-- perhaps a repeat chest Xray or CT scan would help, but the key point would be to find out what the organism (probably bacteria) that is causing your symptoms. I'd what to have a culture of your sputum obtained for analysis for routine and "AFB" bacteria.

Best of luck, BY
