CD4 AND DEATH Dec 15, 2007 I VISITED MY NIECE IN THE ICU THIS EVENING AND LEARNED THAT HER CD4 COUNT IS 4. SHE IS ALSO NOT RESPONDING VERBALLY ONLY TRACKING WITH HER EYES. DOES THIS MEAN THAT DEATH IS IMMINENT? NO VIRAL LOAD WAS AVAILABLE. |

 I'm so very sorry to hear about your niece. There are a lot of possibilities, but the fact that she has such a low CD4 count and not responsive implies that she is critically ill. I can't tell you if death is imminent, because this prognostication depends on the immediate cause of her illness, but I share your concern. I wish her the best, BY | ||||||||
