| Drug interactions Sep 5, 2007 Hello, Can you give me your input on the following questions please. I'm HIV+ and on meds. Now,how do I choose the right hospital if I ever have to go to one? One which will know how to treat somebody beeing already on other meds. MY concern is, that not all doctors might be well enough educated on HIV drug interactions with other drugs. I this a realistic concern or are all hospitals now ready to deal with people on HIV meds? Is there a list which I could check to find a good HIV ready hospital (Im in South Florida). Thanks :o) |

Response from Dr. Young
Thank you for your question. Drug interactions can be a very tricky issue in taking care of persons with HIV infection, especially if there are other medical conditions requiring treatment. Fortunately in South Florida, there are a lot of very experienced doctors, pharmacists and hospitals. I nearly always rely on electronic-based programs to double check for drug-drug interactions (ePocrates is one I use and it's free). As for choosing the right doctor and hospital, I'd speak with the folks at your local AIDS service organization for the beta on who's who in your city. (Check out ASOfinder.com). Hope this helps.
