Thanks for your post. Protease inhibitors are not dosed according to body weight (except in children). This is because while body weights may differ among individuals, the way that the medications are metabolized (liver, kidney) remain relatively similar among different persons. In some settings (perhaps yours), obtaining therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) can help to determine if the side effects are due to abnormally high drug levels or not. The real issue for your patients is finding the medication that is best- not every drug in the same class has the same propensity to cause side effects. Hope this helps. BY | |||||||||
