kivexa+reyataz+norvir
Jun 9, 2007

is this a good first line regim to start treatment ?im resistant to sustiva as i started and stopped without knowing the consequnces .i ask is there a better first line in my case?thanks

Response from Dr. Young

Thanks for your post from outside the US.

The use of abacavir/3TC (Kivexa, Epzicom) and boosted atazanavir (Reyataz) should be a perfectly fine first-line option for someone like you. I'd be interested to know if your doctor has done genetic testing ("HLA B5701"), as is often done now in the United Kingdom, to decrease the likelihood that you'll develop the abacavir allergic reaction.

We've used boosted PIs for first-line use increasingly in part because of transmitted drug resistance and the improved tolerability of newer once-daily options. Make sure to take your medications with food, since this is essential to atazanavir regimens.

Best of health to you, BY
