| CD4 count Apr 27, 2007 The CD4 of someone I know has been slightly on the decrease. six months ago she had CD4 of 75 and percentage of 0.02. Two months later she was tested to have CD4 of 72 and percentage of 0.05. This month she was tested and has CD4 of 68 and percentage of 0.07. She is on first line regimen of combivir and stocrin. What do you make of her figures? |

Response from Dr. Young
Thank you for your post. It would seem to me that your friend has profoundly suppressed immune function. Her CD4 percentage has increased 3.5 times since starting on medications from 0.02 to 0.07. This is suggestive of improvement, even if the absolute (or total) CD4 count hasn't increased too much (yet). Sometimes it takes longer to see the absolute count increase, it's also relevant to ask if there may be other medical conditions or medications (like sulfa or AZT) that could be suppressing the total. Hope this helps, BY | |||||||||
