Dear Dr. Young,
First of all, I'd like to thank you for all the wonderful works you've done to help hiv people around the world. Secondly, wishing you & your family a very Happy New Year. May God bless you all. And finally, need your advise on my sister's lab results. Should she begin treatment now or she should wait? And what is your advises for her to live a normal healthly life?
Below is her results: Jan06: cd4=409(17%); Apr06: cd4=444(16.5%); Jun06: cd4=476(22%);v/l=11,624 Sep06: cd4=493(17%);v/l=10,025 Dec06: cd4=463(19%);v/l=8,720

Hello and thanks for your comments.
Given that there hasn't been much downward trend in her CD4 count or percentage, I don't think that she needs to start medications for HIV in the near future. We typically recommend starting treatment when CD4s are less than 350.
In the meanwhile, there's a lot of preventive medicine that your sis should discuss with her healthcare provider- vaccinations to prevent infections (like herpes, wart virus, pneumonia, etc), PAP smear, smoking cessation; HIV drug resistance testing; diet and exercise among others.
