| Is HIV Test Just an HIV Test Jan 15, 2007 I am in a new relationship and before becoming intimate I am insisting that both my partner and myself be tested for std's, A local group in our area offers free HIV tests my concern is that this test will not be comprehensive and while I will not be exposing myself to HIV I could be exposing myself to other std's do these tests check specifically for HIV or will I know if my partner has something else |

Response from Dr. Young
Thanks for your post. You're right. An HIV test is just that- a test for HIV. It's not a test for syphillis, warts, gonorrhea, hepatitis or anything else. Moreover, a negative HIV test doesn't rule out recently-acquired HIV infection. Be safe out there. BY | |||||||||
