medrol Nov 16, 2006 Hi doctors, i've been given medrol (methylprednisonone), 6x 4mg daily for a slumbering sinus/throatinfection. In Belgium usage of antibiotics is advised agains for sinusinfections, standard treatment is to dose corticosteroids. I'm a biochemist and know steroids may certainly influence immunereactions. I was given these meds (along with pseudoephedrin and a nasal spray containing a contactantibiotic and some corticoids) by my regular physician (we call hem "house doctors), not by my hiv specialist. Please advise. Thanks |

 While corticosteroids (like prednisone and medrol) are immunosuppressive, they are sometimes necessary. I would not worry too much about a short course of medrol, say for a 2-3 weeks. You do have to be careful though for outbreaks of herpes simplex, if you have had such lesions before. Additionally, corticosteroids can reduce bone mass and repeated doses have been associated with osteopenia. DW | ||
