Aug 14, 2006

my girlfriend is pregnant and HIV positive and 35 wks. Weve arranged oral AZT syrup for the newborn. pl tell how to give it to the new born i.e while lying down or sitting up, facing sideways or upwards, awake or sleeping, slowly or fastly ? i know the dosage etc only need to know the mode of adminisration.i have to ask since in our country there r no hiv meds or experts and i had to arrange meds from abroad. girlfriend is already on combivir and we ve planned elective C section. pl answer early as it is already 35 wks

Response from Dr. Young

Thanks for your post.

There's nothing magical about the body position of the child when administering AZT-- just to make sure that the child's doses are correct and aren't missed.

Write us back and let us know how things go in the weeks to come.

I wish you a happy and healthy child. BY
