| Major differences between HIV and AIDS Jul 3, 2006 My wife was diagnosed about 8 months ago and I watched the conversion process. Is the conversion process similar when converting to AIDS? What should I watch for? The other question is, what are some of the major, distinct differences in the two viruses? |

Response from Dr. Young
Sorry to hear about your wife. I think you're confused. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS (and the seroconversion that you report). There is only one virus, not two. With time HIV causes immune damage, when the damage has reached severe levels, the patient develops AIDS. BY | |||||||||
