Videx EC & Levothyroxine together ?
Jan 28, 2006

I take Levothroid (Levothyroxine 175 mcg) immediately after I wake up with only water, Videx EC 45 minutes later (again, only with water), then an hour after that I finally eat my first food of the day and take the rest of my HIV meds.

It would make my pill schedule a LOT easier if I could take the Videx & Levothroid at the same time, but I'm getting conflicting info from my doc versus my pharmacist, which revolves around this question : Can the INACTIVE ingredients these two pills affect absortion of either or both of the ACTIVE drugs ?

FYI, from the the "Patient Information Leaflet" found on the respective manufaturer's websites, Videx EC contains carboxymethylcellulose sodium 12, diethyl phthalate, methacrylic acid copolymer, sodium hydroxide, sodium starch glycolate, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide, gelatin, sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide and edible inks; Levothroid contains microcrystalline cellulose, calcium phospahte dibasic, povodone and magnesium stearate.

Response from Dr. Young

Thaks for your post.

I'm not aware of any significant drug-drug interactions between ddI and thyroid hormone. I have several patients in this category.
