Kaletra and Additional Norvir?
Jan 18, 2006

Hello- Is it unheard of to be prescribed Kaletra and additional Norvir? The total dose of Norvir is 400mg daily. I did not know if this is a common practice or if the additional Norvir is not needed/beneficial (in general). Thank you.

Response from Dr. Young

With the exception of very rare combinations of double boosted PIs, additional ritonavir (Norvir) is not used with lopinavir/ritonavir (Kaletra), and would likely result in additional side effects. The boosting dose of ritonavir used in Kaletra (266 mg daily) is lower than that of the full dose (600 mg twice daily). BY
