i have a simple question. when would a doctor reccomend that someone with HIV begin to take meds? thank you for your time with this question

Response from Dr. Young

We get this question frequently--

In asymptomatic patients, most doctors recommend starting therapy when the CD4 count is below 350. Some healthcare providers will consider initiating treatment earlier in patients with higher viral loads (>100,000).

Also, for patients who have active HIV-related symptoms, treatment is recommended, irrespective of CD4 count.

I hope this helps, BY
