sero converted in June. Start meds or no?..
Dec 25, 2005
I seroconverted in June and since have seen 5 doctors. None can agree on whether it would be wise to start meds.v-load at 680,000 and cd4 at about 512.. Now almost 6 mos. later.. could something have been done to either get my set point v-load lower or cd4 count higher from the beginning?.. How about Fuzeon?...
Response from Dr. Pierone
Hello, sorry to hear about your recent seroconversion.
The reason that 5 doctors cannot agree on whether it would be wise to start meds is because we do not yet have the data to answer this question. If you had started HAART, this intervention would have likely raised your CD4 count, but the set point question remains unanswered.
Fuzeon is used mainly in salvage settings because of the high cost and inconvenience of daily injections and is not appropriate for first line therapy
Good luck to you! .
