Dec 6, 2005

I was just diagnosed with HIv and I am scared of the information I read in a previous posting. Do all HIV'ers die of mylanomas and nonHodgkins lymphoma? How prevelent is it? Can you please explain those types of cancer in a little more detail as to why having HIV causes this? I do not want to die ofHIV, but i also do not want to die of Cancer? I am so scared

Response from Dr. Young

Thanks for your post.

No-- not all HIV patients have cancer. While there are growing concerns that HIV+ persons have a greater risk of developing certain types of cancers, there are many, many patients who live normal lives, without cancer or symptoms related to HIV (or its treatment).

Worry not but certainly talk to your doctor about your concerns. Feel free to contact us again with any additional questions. BY
