FTC & 3TC
Nov 1, 2005

First, a big thanks to all for this wonderful site.

Recently, my HIV specialist changed my meds from Combivir & Sustiva to Reyataz, Norvir, Emtriva & Epivir. I am questioning the need for both 3TC & FTC (as one is a sub-set of the other), but cannot get anything from my doc except "well, I picked two from column A, etc"

While my doc is well respected, he sure isn't communicating very well with me on this issue.

Thanks.

Response from Dr. Wohl

As fast as you can, immediately find another doctor. There is no reason I can think of (and I have a pretty good imagination) that justifies use of 3TC and FTC together. Further, telling you that he just picked from different columns demonstrates his a) ignorance and b) lack of tact.

Run, do not walk, and find a real specialist.
