alternative treatment Oct 24, 2005 About a year ago, I saw a television news report about looking for an alternative way to treat HIV due to the high cost and the risks for side effects of taking anti-HIV drugs. The best as I can recall, it had to do with something like an injection of something so the body can fight HIV on its own and keep it in control without drugs. Do you know anything about this, and if so, when could this be available? |

 There are studies looking at trying to boost the body's own immmune system responses to HIV using HIV vaccines. This may be what you saw. There is still much to be learned about how to best use such vaccines and about what kinds of vaccines evoke the strongest responses. Some studies are using HIV treatment along with vaccines, others cellular chemicals that also boost immune function. This is still in the early stages so stay tuned. DW | ||||||||
