Thank you for your post.
It is very good to hear from our readers in Asia.
Saddly, our attempts to prevent the spread of HIV have largely failed. Messages about safe sex, safe drugs, condoms and abstinence have only rarely resulted in the reduction in the rates of new cases. I fear that without consistent, never-ending and scientifically validated messages from community, church, government and the medical community, we will continue to see new cases of HIV infection.
Worse yet, without a global effort to bring care and HIV medications to all HIV+ pregnant women, 1/3 or their children will be born with HIV-- a situation that is entirely preventable, if only for sufficient motivation and political will.
Until such a time when prevention is more effective or when we have an effective preventive vaccination, we must deal effectively with the global issues of access to qualified medical care and affordable life-saving medications--strategies that have radically reduced the amount of HIV-related suffering in the developed world.
Thanks for reading. Good health to you. BY
