| non-HIV/Aids related MAC Aug 26, 2005 My mother has asthma, emphsemia and GERD. She has coughing spells. Due to the above she has had CT scans of her lungs which a small spot was found over a year ago. She had a recent CT scan and this spot has not grown but other little spots where detected. The radiologists and Pulmonary doctor are considering MAC. She coughed up some sputum for a test. She has NO other symptoms other. Just this ct scan. How can this relate to MAC when all I can find is HIV/AIDS related? |

Response from Dr. Wohl
Thsi forum is dedicated to questions regarding HIV-related issues. I will say though that before the HIV epidemic, MAC was well known to be a cause of lung disease - typically in older, thin women. It was known as Lady Windermere's Disease (a charcater from an Oscar Wilde play with symptoms of this infection). DW | |||||||||
