Low Initial VL has risen since Dx
Jul 6, 2005

When I found I was HIV+ in Oct 2004, my VL was 28000 it has since risen to over 100k and stayed there. The VL did drop in 2 tests done during a Dx for hypoxia, that cleared up. also continuous diarrehea, fatigue, aphthous ulcers. What should I ask my HIV N.P.

Response from Dr. Wohl

The viral load can fluctuate. The test itself has some wiggle room - as much as a three fold variability up or down from the value reported. Also, there can be real changes in the viral load in teh blood due to illness or vaccination.

For most people, the viral load does settle within a set range. More importantly is what your CD4 cell count is doing?
