Response from Dr. Pierone
Both of these regimens would be expected to be very forgiving of a several hour delay in a dose. This is based on the long persistence of these agents in the bloodstream and inside cells. Truvada (Viread + Emtriva) would be expected to have active levels longer than Epzicom (Ziagen + Epivir). Likewise, Sustiva should outlast Viramune in the body. The greater concern is completely forgetting to take the medication for an entire day (or longer - it happens). This is the situation in which longer lasting medications might be expected to be superior. Hope that this helps and thanks for posting. | |||||||||
