|which combination is more understanding with adherance?
Jun 21, 2005
thank you for your help...i love reading through this Q and A section... i would like to know which combination is more flexible if i am late taking my medication some day...by say two, three, four hours? viramune/epzicom or sustiva/truvada? Does the half life of these pills have anything to do with it? thank you for your help

Both of these regimens would be expected to be very forgiving of a several hour delay in a dose. This is based on the long persistence of these agents in the bloodstream and inside cells. Truvada (Viread + Emtriva) would be expected to have active levels longer than Epzicom (Ziagen + Epivir). Likewise, Sustiva should outlast Viramune in the body. The greater concern is completely forgetting to take the medication for an entire day (or longer - it happens). This is the situation in which longer lasting medications might be expected to be superior. Hope that this helps and thanks for posting.
