Jun 5, 2005
my son is adoctor and he graduated just 3 years befor. last month (may)he diagnosed as hiv +ve but on no treatment.he talking about looking for an other job.im asking about is it possible to continue ?
Response from Dr. Pierone
He can continue practicing as a doctor but it depends on what part of the world he lives in and the specific laws that govern the practice of medicine and surgery. For example, in some regions, a surgeon would not be able to practice because of the fear that he or she would transmit disease to their patient (although the chance of this is exceedingly slim). There are many different types of jobs within the medical field and these include administrative positions as well. He should seek professional counsel regarding his future options.
