| Dry Mouth & Eye Question Mar 10, 2005 Hello, I was wondering if a person with hiv has dry eye and mouth, does this usually occur at night or can it occur anytime? I have night time dry eye and once in a while I get dry mouth at sleep. Should this be a concern? |

Response from Dr. Young
Thanks for your post. There are some medical conditions that can cause dry eyes and dry mouth-- some are related to arthritis and others, medication side effects. Before I'd seek medical attention, I'd be sure that you are adequately hydrated. One simple way to to this is to drink plenty of caffeine-free liquids and checking to see that this renders your urine clear (as opposed to dark yellow). If, after hydration, your eyes and mouth are still abnormally dry, I'd contact your doctor. Good luck, BY | |||||||||
