New combo & food restrictions

Mar 6, 2005

My questions are regarding a treatment combination that includes Kaletra (BID), ddI 250 mg(OD), and Viread 300 mg(OD). I've seen studies that show that levels of ddI and Viread may be increased with this combination. Does it matter when the ddI and Viread are taken - in the morning or evening (with the Kaletra), and should these be taken with or without food? And should the schedule be every 12 hours, or is that flexible at all?

Thank you so much for your input!

Response from Dr. Young

When ddI is taken with tenofovir (Viread), the two medications can be taken together, and since there is little effect by food, the whole regimen can be taken together with your Kaletra too.

The doses should be preferably every 12 hours, but there is a 2 to 3 hour leeway.

Hope this helps, BY
