Hello..I was wondering when the next big HIV conference is and where it will be. Are only doctors allowed to go or can people with HIV go to learn the latest as well? Is there a cost to go? Thx for your help.
Response from Dr. Young
The next large HIV conference is the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, later this month in Boston. While the meeting is by no means restricted to physicians (actually physicians make up only a minority of attendees), attendence at this meeting is relatively restricted (because of numbers). (You can follow the proceedings of this meeting here at TheBody.com's conference coverage.)
Each summer, the World AIDS Conference (alternating with the International AIDS Society meeting) occurs in July- this summer's program is in Brazil, next year in Canada. These meeting have open registration and persons with HIV are encouraged to attend. The meetings are not cheap, but community scholarships are available. If you're interested, I'd encourage you to attend. BY
