|Sicknesses related to HIV

I visited a doctor who advised me that HIV can cause sicknesses even if your CD4 count is still high. How far true is that? Would those sicknesses be serious in a way that could lead to death. I always thought if your CD4 count is high you are still fairly safe from sicknesses.
Response from Dr. Young
Yes, persons with HIV, irrespective of CD4 cell count can have a variety of illnesses. The vast majority of persons with normal CD4 cell counts and HIV infection don't have major health issues, but a small percentage of persons do have more serious issues.
So, your doctor is correct-- I'd advise you (and all those with HIV) to get periodic health monitoring (though clinic visits and laboratory assessment), even if their CD4 cell counts are "high".
i was just diagnosed
High viral load. Should I do something?
