 Cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis is a serious infection of the lower intestine. It occurs among persons with very low CD4 cell counts (less than 100, typically). Diagnosis can only be obtained through colonoscopy with biopsy. Tests that detect CMV in stool or blood do not have sufficient specificity to be accurate for the diagnosis of colitis. BY | ||||||||
