Videx and Viread togetherDec 23, 2004 I would like to know when viread 300mg and videx EC 250mg prescribed, can they be taken together with food. Client is also taking kaletra. thanks |

![]() | Response from Dr. PieroneThe package insert of Videx (ddI) states that it should be taken on an empty stomach but we ignore this instruction routinely. More ddI is absorbed from the capsule when it is taken without food, but the differences are minimal compared to taking it with food. There is an important drug interaction between Viread and Videx that results in higher ddI levels (and ddI related toxicity). There are several studies that have shown CD4 count declines related to this combination, so one should be wary of it. | ||||||||
