Videx,Viread and Emtriva
Dec 7, 2004
Is there any problems to take Videx/Viread/Emtriva?
Response from Dr. Young
I'd be concerned about the use of alternative triple NRTI regimens, such as tenofovir/ddI/FTC-- there is scant clinical data about the combination and the available data suggests that there may very well be superior alternatives.
Assuming that you've been prescribed this as first-line treatment of HIV, there are clearly superior options that can have similar low pill count, for example: Truvada (tenofovir/FTC) or Epzicom (abacavir/3TC) with efavirenz (Sustiva)-- each result in a two pill, once-daily first line regimen. Please talk to your doctor about the rationale behind your particular regimen.
