|Initial Treatment after pregancy

Patient is female, age is 25 yr.and her C.D.4 count is 873.At this stage there is no compleint of her.Two months ago she delverved a male baby .Still husband is HIV negative. Does she requires any anti viral treatment?If yes what it should be?

If the woman is asymptomatic and has a CD4 count of 870 (normal), I wouldn't be recommending initiation of antiretroviral therapy. Since she is married (and presumably sexually active), I'd certainly emphasize the need for safer sex methods, to prevent transmission to her husband; furthermore, breast feeding should be avoided, or considered closely, since there is risk of transmission of HIV to her child through breast milk.
