hello dr i was infected june 2003 and diagnosed sept 2003, the first 3 readings of my blood where; VL 3000-3000-5000-3000 and my CD4 530-570-580-860 so there is a rise in the CD4's while the Vl is stable. 2 questions: does it happen often that CD4 rise so sharply, second, my doctor (king leopold institute tropical medicine antwerp) tells me i might be a LTNP??? can this be??
Response from Dr. Pierone
LTNP stands for long term non-progressor and this typically is associated with low viral load readings (often below 1000) and normal CD4 counts. You may be a LTNP or perhaps a slow progressor. Sometimes CD4 count readings come back unexpectedly high or low for any one determination. It might be too soon to know until you get a few more sets of lab results under your belt, but it looks very promising. Best of luck!
poss LTNP but worried
very low CD4 yet asymptomatic
