newly diagnosed?
Apr 29, 2004

my viral test came back and showed a vl of 30000.00 and my t cells were at 12 Im lost how bad is my condition and how fast should I start on the medications and could my t cell count go back up after on the medications? thank you

Response from Dr. Wohl

Your CD4 cell count (T-cell count) is very low. Normally, the CD4 cell count is around 500-1000. 12 is a fraction of that. Fortunately, your viral load is not too high, therefore, it should not take much to supress your viral load.

Certainlym you should start HIV therapy now. Your CD4 cell count should rise within weeks. While you may not see a rise to normal levels, you should see a significant increase over time if you take your medications as directed.
