good CD4 count
Apr 9, 2004

sir, My friend is HIV Positive since two years. His CD4 count was 650 before 18 months, now it is 538.He was having fever, tiredness, loss of appetite before 10 days back but now he has not these complains after some herbal medication.Above symptoms were due to decrease in CD4 count? what is good CD4 count? Indian friend.

Response from Dr. Wohl

A typical CD4 cell count is around 800-1000. There is much variation in this number from person to person and even laboratory to laboratory.

If your friend has a CD4 cell count above 500, this is considered quite good and HIV related problems are possible but less likely. Hopefully, your friend is seeking medical care for his symptoms.
