Low Plateletts, CD4 and VL
Jan 17, 2004

CD4-315 (25) VL 22K My platelets are low (23K/uL). CD4 has been 500+ except recently. VL steady for 7yrs. What is going on with my platelets? My doctor has recently started me on treatment because of the platelet issue. Will this improve with treatment?

Response from Dr. Young

Thanks for your question.

Low platlets are a fairly common complication of HIV infection. Having low platlets can be a serious issue, with increased risk of bleeding and hemmorrhage. While there are a number of specific causes, most respond to treating the HIV itself; rarely other measures need to be taken.

Good luck, BY
