clarification of HIV and Aids Status
Dec 22, 2003

Thanks for answering my question.

As a follow up, if a person is considered HIV status above cd4 200, why do they not return to HIV status after dipping below and recovering to an above 200 count?

Response from Dr. Young

This is one for epidemiolgy and for the medical attorneys-- by the way, "HIV status" is positive, whether one has a CD4 count above or below 200. Your vocabulary really refers to whether an HIV positive person has an AIDS diagnosis or not.

One way to look at this is to imagine that a person has hypertension (high blood pressure)-- if that person is on adequate medications, the blood pressure may be "normal", but the person still has the disease or diagnosis of hypertension.

I hope this helps, BY

Trizivir and rash, syphilis actually
