| price of meds down the road Dec 13, 2003 Hello, Where do you see the price of current meds going, say ten or twenty years down the road? Given, that research seems to be pussy footing around on a therapeutic vaccine, (when trials are set to distribute an effective SARS vaccine in only 2 more years or so)!! Would'nt the patents held by the pharmacuetical giants have run out by then, resulting in cheaper generics,(of existing meds)? For any other disease treatment, like high blood pressure, or heart disease, I know the price of these meds is soooo cheap compared to those for HIV. |

Response from Dr. Pierone
The price of HIV medications is going to be lower in the future. They will continue to be expensive in the developed world (to fund new drug development) and the price will continue to drop quickly in the under developed parts of the world (not fast enough). | |||||||||
