Genital HerpesDec 1, 2003 Thank you for your answer on my last post.I wish you could tell me more about whether the outbreaks of genetal herpes are caused by the HIV. Can this be cured or will I face this every cycle. Is it caused by a decline of the immune system. |

![]() | Response from Dr. YoungSome individuals with HIV (especially those with more advanced disease or AIDS) can have more severe or more frequent herpes flairs. The outbreaks are not caused by HIV, per se, but rather from any one of the many triggers of herpes, like stress and trauma. Herpes cannot be cured, but can be effectively treated with early medical intervention with one of a number of anti-herpes antivirals (acyclovir, famciclovir or valacyclovir). BY | ||||||||
