New therapies?
Nov 3, 2003

Are there any ways to your knowledge to make the virus leave all cells so that the meds can destroy them...are there such drug in the future? Also, I have heard that Echinacea should not be taken when you are HIV+ because it may activate the immune system...if one is already taking medication shouldn`t that be a good get hte virus out in order to kill it? Thanks

Response from Dr. Pierone

There are some innovative experimental strategies that aim to purge HIV-infected cells of virus so that it can be more easily destroyed. This is a great idea, but probably not coming to our block anytime soon. I don't know about the effect of Echinacea in HIV, no studies that I am aware of.
