will the price of t-20 drop?
Oct 29, 2003
The cost of t-20 per year is around 20,000. Will this price drop and when? Why won't the prices of other meds also decrease?
Response from Dr. Young
The pricing of medications is a very complicated and sometimes magical issue that has to do with return on investment, cost of manufacturing the product, the market pricing landscape and regulatory issues; in fact, its quite difficult to figure it out sometimes.
As for T-20, this has to be one of the most complicated drugs to manufacture and the projected market for the drug is not huge, hence a quite high cost per dose. Do I expect the price of this or other on-patent drugs to decrease in the US in the near future? Well, no.
