i DON'T UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AIDS/HIV. IS THERE A T4C READING THAT TELLS YOU THIS? A MOTHER OF A SON DIAGOSED WITH HIV WIH A T4 OF 80. THANKS
Response from Dr. Young
Dear Mom- sorry to hear about your son.
HIV is the virus, human immunodeficiency virus. Infection with HIV does not immediately cause significant medical problems-- these persons have asymptomatic HIV infection.
Over time, there is sufficient damage to the immune system (we measure this by looking at a specific cell type, called CD4 cells) to cause complications. When the CD4 cell count is below 200 (like your son's) or when one of a particular set of complications (infections or cancers) arise, we categorize these HIV-infected persons as having AIDS. BY
fda just approved 908, tell me why this is good?
