2003 Prognosis
Oct 16, 2003

Do you think someone just diagnosed this month -- just infected three months ago -- has a different prognosis then someone who was infected and diagnosed even three years ago?

Response from Dr. Wohl

Prognosis depends on so many different factors. The most fundemental are the viral load and CD4 cell count but concomitant illnesses, HIV treatment history, alcohol and drug abuse, nutritional status, genetics are exapmles of additional influences.

Certainly, the prospects for persons living with HIV/AIDS are constantly improving as new medications are developed and we learn lessons about the use of the medications we already have. DW
