| Start HAART now or wait? Aug 26, 2003 I just found out I am pos (totally asymptomatic - never even had any sign of seroconversion). Tested neg 6 months ago. CD4 is 628 (54); and VL is 11,150. My doc says not to start HAART now, but acknowledges that some of her colleagues differ on this. I guess the question is whether I am close enough to the date of initial infection that early start is indicated. What do you think? |

Response from Dr. Young
Simply stated, I don't think I'd recommend starting therapy at this time. You very likely have passed the acute retroviral stage (when we might recommend treatment) and currently have a high CD4 count and a reasonably low viral load. Current treatment guidelines (not a bible, but a good starting point for discussion) would also recommend waiting to start with your current situation. Good health, BY | |||||||||
