Geographic tongue? Jul 7, 2003 Dr. Young, My CD4 count is within normal, though the ratio is low. But, almost all the time, among many symptoms I experience on a daily basis, I have a tongue with a thick white coating and big lesions that are surrounded by white borders. The severity waxes and wanes. Does this sound like geographic tongue or thrush? Can chronic geographic tongue be caused by a weakened immune system? Thanks. |

 This is a difficult diagnosis to make by writing. Geographic tongue is not a serious condition and is quite common, even among the "healthy" (my teenage daughter has it). I'd ask you to speak to your healthcare provider about this condition- a clinical evaluation is probably in order if there is any doubt. BY | ||||||||
