Can +man have baby with -woman?
Jun 1, 2003
I am not American. I am living in a developing country. I am an HIV positive husband but my wife is not. We want to have baby. Are there possible methods? Please advise me. Thank you.

Thank you for your question.
There are experimental procedures that some specialty clinics have used to "wash" sperm of HIV. Unfortunately, these are unlikely to be available to you.
Indeed, there is probably pretty high risk of transmitting HIV to your wife and even your child-- the best way to reduce the risk of transmission of HIV through sperm is to be on effective antiretroviral therapy. HAART therapy will significantly reduce the level of HIV in the sperm, and therefore the risk of transmission of HIV. The problem though is that the risk probably never reaches zero-- hence, there will always be some level of risk.
I'd ask you to talk to your doctors at lenght about your best options. Good luck. BY
