Therapeutic vaccines?! May 23, 2003 Hi Dr. Wohl, I have a question regarding the develpoment and advances in HIV therapeutic vaccines. Some of these have reached the third phase of clicical trials however there is still no news of them being clinically available. For example the following study in phase III is on the way which is using REMUNE and ALVAC, http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00005758?order=17 How can we reach the results of these trials? And do you think that we will be seeing therapeutuic vaccines available in the next three years? Thanks alot! S. N. |

 Vaccine trials are still ongoing. There actually has been a lot of news lately about HIV vaccines to prevent HIV infection following the release of the VaxGen Study data (http://edition.cnn.com/2003/HEALTH/conditions/02/24/otsc.gupta.aids.vaccine/index.html), but therapeutic vaccines still remain unproven. I anticipate more data about this approach within the next couple of years. DW | ||||||||
