How long since infected?
Mar 25, 2003

Hi there. I was diagnosed in August 1998 with a T-cell count of 30 and a viral load of 1.5 million. How long do you think it was since I was infected? My T-cell count is currently over 600 and viral load undetectable. Apart from some issues with depression, the only problem I have was a severe shingles episode in August last year. I'm taking stavudine, lamiduvine and efavirenz.

Response from Dr. Young

It's very likely been several years since you were initially infected-- on average, maybe as many as eight. Because of individual variation, it may have been as few as 4 or 5 or perhaps many years longer. -BY
