Help with choosing meds
Mar 10, 2003

I'm about ready to start meds.... and I have a question for ALL you docs. I know it's a hard quesiton to answer ... but try ok? I would like to know what 3 meds used in combination have the least amount of side effects that you have used. I have no symptons, but my VL and cd4 suggest that I consider starting meds.

Response from Dr. Young

There is no one answer to this question-- indeed the best answer really depends on a lot of situations that refer to your health situation and preferences.

If current prescriptions and opinions count, then the most popular (and ones that I'd consider) use two nucleosides and either a NNRTI or a booste protease inhibitor. Commonly prescribed and well researched combinations include Combivir/efavirenz (Sustiva); tenofovir/3TC/efavirenz or Combivir/Kaletra.

Hope this is a start- BY
